The showers of stars are astronomical events that enjoy great popularity, and this November we will have the possibility to contemplate two different ones.
These phenomena occur when the Earth is, during its journey around the Sun, with debris flows from comets or, eventually, asteroids.
Taurids and Leonids
This November we can observe the Taurids, with peak on November 10 and 11, and the Leonids, on November 17.
The Taurids so called because they appear to radiate from the constellation of Taurus, are the fruit of the wake of the comet Encke . Leonids which radiate from the Leo constellation, occasionally produce meteor storms, as in 1966. The source of this event is the comet Tempel-Tuttle .
